Decent Barrack

Those folks who are looking for cheap accommodation stay, Backpackers style trip might be highly desire-able. Typically such accommodation offers room as well as bathroom to share with other Backpackers in a rather slightly large room known as Barrack.

The best way to find out a suitable room to stay is via close friend or relative's references. Acceptable guidance might not be sufficient, but you also need "Tips To Carry Along" to ensure a well planned trip. Warm clothes or possibly lighter wear for warmer climate destination.

Bandung Leisure may provide just that for those seeking a rather adventure trip. It could be not as popular as other destinations such as Bali or Yogja, yet Bandung has enjoyed consistent high rank of Tourist Visit.

Evidently every long weekend ends up huge flock of Tourists crowding the cool weather city, local or foreigner. Nature attraction either at Northern or Eastern part of greater Bandung or perhaps culinary and shopping destinations within the city itself.

Ready for memorable Bandung Trip, let's find out a Decent Barrack stay!

Parit 9 Restaurant

Yesterday Leisure Activities did mention the Parit 9 Restaurant a sea food speciality cuisine house, located at Anggrek just off the Riau running to Supratman Street. The sea food house has been in the culinary industry since 30 odd years ago, in early years it started in business at Cendana Street just off the Lapangan Supratman. Cendana runs in parallel and next to Anggrek, both streets offer driver alternative route to Riau but with less traffic hassles!

Are we there yet? Supposedly Arriving on Bandung, Accommodation is the last order of priority but instead the unique cuisine is really what you are after, then Bandung is the right place to be! Amidst active volcanoes Bandung is blessed with fresh vegetables supplies from the nearby surrounding farms and having them on the table being fresh and still sweet is indeed unforgettable experiences.

The freshly picked vegetable together with equally fresh sea food dishes is the main character behind this restaurant’s reputations. The customer could hand pick her own choice of raw materials while the attendant and the chef would do the rest until the dish is being served on the table.

But if your not up to the Chinese style dish that this restaurant offers, there are more than two other alternatives available just conveniently located at the same Street. On one end toward Supratman there is a street side vendor stall offering meat ball soup, where as on the other end off the Jalan Riau Bandung there are two differing cuisines being offered. On the left hand side a European style sausage prepared by “Leisure Butcher Van Java” and across the street our own cuisine invention but may be patented elsewhere the heritage Satay.

Bandung Budget Hotel

Arriving on Bandung, Accommodation is obviously an important agenda. As Leisure Activities previously depicted attractions at Jalan Riau Bandung and the convenience of staying over at Hotel Santika Bandung, there is no doubt that some travellers opt for lower cost alternative and most probably would not mind to stay away from the crowded shopping Street.

The local municipality has forecasted new additional rooms in the vicinity of 12,000 units by the year 2010 consisting from low budget to boutique style as well as high upper class accommodations, but mostly 3 stars and lower. There are no less than 6 Budget Hotels along the Supratman Street which connects the Diponegoro where Gedung Sate is located to the formerly great post road currently A Yani Boulevard.

The area represents well within 5 minutes drive to the famous Dago as well as Riau Streets where the access to both from Supratman Street offer less congested traffic, furthermore the neighbouring area has plenty of decent restaurants for example Roemah Nenek at Cibeunying Selatan Street and the sea food speciality Parit 9 at Anggrek Street are located right in the middle of between Supratman and Riau Streets.

The Bandung Budget Hotel has typically offers sufficient space with decent amenities (AC, 14” TV and hot shower) in the Rp. 300,000 to 500,000 pricing range, some are offering large family room including breakfast for a pair minimum. Travellers could expect bargain rate during the week days.

For more info on these Hotels whereabouts within the above area; see Bandung Trip Map Guide.

The Supratman runs along in parallel to the Riau Street with one particular access through Lapangan Supratman.

Jalan Riau Bandung

Riau Street or Jalan Riau Bandung is one of many popular shopping Streets out of yet a number of tourist attraction locations within North Bandung. This Northern part section had been developed by the Dutch Indies prior to 1930s period and was designed and allocated for its government offices as well as their respective housing areas.

The development was the natural evolvement from the year 1812 where large Java Cities connecting main road was established and roughly around a century later that railway was constructed, the train station and the great post road as it was called were both located right at the center of Bandung.

By extending the city to its Northern direction all government buildings could get the Tangkuban Perahu Mountain view as such that most building is indeed facing the then fantastic mountain scenery, if the building has had not received alteration at all. And by sheer coincident should you Travel to Bandung Inroad via Cipularang Toll road and exits through Pasteur gate you would end up from the fly over bridge at the Northern side of the former Dutch Indies main government building the Gedung Sate.

Dago Street

The Riau Street extends from Dago Street another shopping area to the great post road now A Yani Boulevard, for more info on both street whereabouts within North Bandung area including some Outlet and Hotel Lists; see Bandung Trip Map Guide.

Being one of local tourist attraction is always busy particularly during the long public holiday; getting caught in a traffic jam during this period on either Dago or Riau Street is like being stranded in the middle of a huge parade of carnival, you might as well be taking a leisure stroll while carefully selecting out which Factory Outlet that fancy to drop by.

Therefore for those who fancy dropping by to each Outlet, getting accommodation within the area would be a sensible and convenient choice as there are dozens of Hotels available. Many people are travelling in a group whose members are having different shopping interest; the group could disperse and regroup later back in the nearby Hotel. Group coordination hurdle and hassles is cut to the minimum!

Tips to carry along

It is fairly obvious for the first time traveller to have many doubts as how to conduct a safe and pleasant journey. Especially those coming from either Northern or Southern hemisphere, where as over here we have only two seasons. Bearing right on the equator (zero latitude), the Indonesian archipelago offers a humid tropical weather. An area where most tropical forest exists and hence insects are in great abundance.

Malaria infected mosquitoes are reportedly has low occurrences during the past decade, bearing in mind that anti malaria pill has been invented in Bandung by a Dutch scientist. Yet, for precaution measure taking malaria pill prior to journey is a wise decision. Particularly on those journey to remote places, but not necessary in Bandung.

Further info on staying healthy are available here; such as general and guidance health issues during travelling period. And should you become sick while travelling, here is a way to overcome. Certainly we are hoping that you would not, but just in case!

Apart of health precaution hurdles, I have prepared a list of detailed review as further tips. These reviews are available in the format of; books, map and even DVD! Merely to ease the task of planning ahead. Otherwise, this could be another headache. From general guidance of travelling to Asia (Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore) to the famous Bali island, Lombok island, Java island and in-particular the focus of this website; Bandung as well as its vicinity.

On guidance for Sumatra and Java for example (quoted excerpt) : "Join host Marie Cruz on a trek to colorful tea plantations, volcanic mountains markets and stunning waterfalls tumbling from the steamy jungles of Sumatra. In Java she explores ancient temples, learns the magical art of the shadow puppets from its master, rides an elephant and motorbike through rugged hilltop communities to climb into a cage with a deadly Komodo Dragon". Further detail review.....

In addition to these guidance, there are also other recommended items to bring along on your trip. Amongst other : camera, gadget, power plug adaptor etc.

This site has just been "restored" by Blogger. It had been disabled for allegedly "splogging" for a fortnight. Being a newbie it was purely unintentional, it was merely due to ease visitor navigation within the site. The culprit was apparently I made more than one links to the same page on my Astore Amazone page.

Now as I learnt the hard way, I have made a separate Astore page on different site of mine. Thus for detail tips and guidances mentioned above, please click on "example". It will direct you to page 9 of my Astore! To head for page 1 ; travel kit companion.

Leisure Guide

Ramadan is nearly ending in a couple of days. There will be a large influx of the Jakartan people going to Bandung Paris Van Java (mudik/ pulang kampoeng). Most Hotel are booked already for the last fortnight.

Attempting to ease the burden for those people seeking out hotel in last minute, as depicted here is the glimpse of Bandung map. The map only covers the area which early in the century known as "European District" declared by then the Dutch Indies Government.

It is essentially the Northern part of Bandung with highlights of certain tourism objects; such as historical building, restaurants, few street milestones, shopping areas, bank and Hotels.

Furthermore it also depicts the famous Tjihapit Internment Camp during the 2nd World War, where Europeans were held by Japanese military. It has long gone but supposedly located to now between cihapit traditional market and Siliwangi stadium.
